You are invited to join our first annual Celebration of Indonesian art and Women’s liberation !

We are thrilled to welcome our community to the grand opening of Nusantara Arts new Indonesian Culture Center, as we host a lively celebration of Indonesian culture and art with our Open House and Kartini Day event! Join us for a hands-on experience delving into the vibrant traditions of Javanese and Balinese music and dance. With performances from Nusantara Arts as well as hands on workshops to try out the instruments and dance for yourselves.

Saturday April 20th from 1-4pm - Free!
1-2pm: Balinese and Javanese Music / Dance Performances
2-2:50: Balinese Gamelan Workshop
3-3:50: Javanese Gamelan Workshop
4-4:30: Balinese Dance Workshop

About Kartini Day:

Join us in commemorating the pioneering spirit of Raden Ajeng Kartini, whose advocacy for women's rights and education continues to inspire generations. Celebrated annually, Kartini day honors her legacy and contributions to the empowerment of women in Indonesian society.

Gamelan Music Performances:

Step into the enchanting world of Javanese and Balinese gamelan orchestras, where ancient melodies blend with close knit communities. Our talented musicians will showcase the intricate melodies and mesmerizing sounds of the traditional metallophones, gongs, and drums of both islands, offering a glimpse into the heart of Indonesian musical heritage.

Balinese Dance Performance:

Experience the magic of Balinese dance as our performers take the spotlight in vibrant traditional costumes showcasing both graceful movements and expressive gestures. Accompanied by the enchanting melodies of gamelan music, their performance will transport you to the mystical landscapes of Bali.

Activities & Workshops:

Gamelan Workshops: Discover the artistry behind Javanese and Balinese gamelan music with interactive demonstrations led by our skilled musicians. Join the free hands-on workshop and try out gamelan music for yourself!

Dance Workshop: Join us for some fun movement and learn the fundamentals of Balinese dance from Riesa Avanti!

Craft & Cultural Display: Immerse yourself in Indonesian culture through a showcase of traditional crafts, costumes, and artifacts, like Wayang kulit shadow puppets and batik fabrics!

Culinary Delights: Indulge your senses with some delicious traditional snacks and foods from Indonesia!

This event is open to all members of our community, free of charge. Your generous donations are welcomed to support our ongoing efforts in promoting and preserving Indonesian arts and culture.
